Our family purchased an RV camper last year and we’ve been on a few camping trips around Tennessee so far. I very quickly realized that standard RV mattresses are super thin and uncomfortable. I slept so terrible those first couple of trips, which was really unfortunate since we were doing a lot of hiking each day and I needed good sleep to recover. So I had to find the most comfortable short queen mattress for RV campers.
I did find the perfect mattress for our RV, but I also found other short queen mattresses that might suit a variety of camper people as well. Since I have an entire section of my blog dedicated to outdoorsy families, I figured I’d share what we are using and the options available.
Top 5 Most Comfortable RV Camper Mattresses (Short Queen)
On this list is my #1 recommendation for a short queen mattress for your RV camper. Followed by more highly reviewed camper mattresses on Amazon and affordable camper mattresses to get surprisingly good comfort for the money.
1. Lucid 10 inch Hypoallergenic Foam Short Queen Mattress
This gel infused memory foam short queen mattress is a perfect fit for our queen size camper bed. I like that it is hypoallergenic and CertiPUR-US certified. It was very easy to setup and is exdreamily comfortable! 😉
Price: This is regularly $340-400, but we found it on sale on Amazon for around $260! Not a bad investment for better sleep. Check price on Amazon today.
The last mattress we had we tried to use a mattress topper with it. So we had to cut about a foot of the foot-end off. That’s the problem with getting standard size mattress toppers for an RV. But this short queen mattress fits perfectly in the bed space we have for the “master bed”. It measures 75″L x 60″W x 10″Th.
The base foam is made of bamboo charcoal foam, which I guess aids in the hypoallergenic part. I felt this would be the best choice for us and probably the most comfortable, because it has over 19,000 reviews!
So if you’re looking for the most comfortable RV mattress, I believe the Lucid 10 inch memory foam short queen mattress is the way to go.

The Zinus Memory Foam 8 Inch RV Camper Trailer Truck Mattress is a cheaper, but highly reviewed option for those seeking a comfortable and supportive RV mattress. Its 2 inches of memory foam provides excellent pressure relief, contouring to your body’s shape and minimizing motion transfer.

We will next be buying new mattresses for the bunk beds in our RV so that our kids can be more comfortable sleeping as well. Stay tuned for that post as we haven’t purchased them yet.
Can You Use a Regular Mattress in an RV Camper?
The answer is yes, but you probably shouldn’t. For one thing, RV mattresses have to sit on a thin piece of wood, whether it’s plywood or something else. So going with an all foam, lightweight and foldable mattress in your RV camper is much better than a big bulky, stiff mattress that weighs 30+ pounds.
Another reason you don’t want to use a regular mattress in an RV is that they are just too long. RV campers usually give smaller space for the beds. Regular mattresses are around 80 inches long, where RV beds are 75 inches. So your mattress needs to be about 5 inches shorter than a regular mattress, otherwise it won’t fit the best.
In our camper I need those extra 5 inches to be able to walk around the bed to “my side of the bed”. That’s why when we bought the new foam mattress for our RV, we bought the short queen version, not the standard queen version.
So if you’re new to RV camping, are remodeling an old RV or it’s time to purchase an RV mattress replacement, I hope this post helps you find the most comfortable mattress for your RV camper! Leave your thoughts in the comments and let me know if you found a good quality bunk bed mattress set.
